PRONOUNS AND ARTICLE!!!

Pronoun and article, that was being thought today. But not by Miss Zu, because this is presentation time!!! by Ain Nadia's group, Farah and also Nina. It's quite interesting too because there have some games, or the best word to refer is exercise. This is what i got from internet about pronuns and article.

Using Articles With Pronouns

A pronoun is used to modify a noun; an article is also used to modify a noun. If both are used to modify the same noun, the reader will become confused. Pronouns are words likehe, I, we, our, it, her, and their. Articles should not be used to modify pronouns.
Why are you reading the my book?
The and my should not be used together.
Why are you reading my book?
Getting on the train, she gave her ticket to a him.
Getting on the train, she gave her ticket to him.
Getting on the train, she gave her ticket to a ticket man.

here some more example that I get from internet

What is the difference between a noun, pronoun, and an article in grammar?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

What is a noun? A noun is a person, place or thing.

What is a pronoun? There are three different types of pronouns: 1. Subject pronoun, it replaces a noun used as the subject of the sentence. 2. Object pronoun, it replaces a noun used after an action verb or a preposition. 3. Reflexive pronoun, it refers back to the subject.

And an artical? it is a word that conbines with a noun to indicate the type of reference being made by the noun, and may also specify the volume or numerical scope of that refernece.

Does that make sense?

TOPIC SENTENCE, SUPPORTING DETAIL AND MAIN IDEA.

Wednesday, 11 January 2012, in Bel 120' class,we learn about topic sentence, supporting detail and main idea. this three thing is used for do an essay. topic sentence express the general idea of a paragraph while supporting detail are sentences which provide further information and lastly is main idea, a passage or a paragraph tell the general idea.before this I don know about this thing that I think it's quite familiar to me too, but before Miss Zu teach me, then I'm quite familiar with this three thing. from my research in internet, this is what I've found, i think it exactly like Miss Zu teach us, but there are few more thing that being added in internet.

Identifying Topics, Main Ideas, and Supporting Details

Understanding the topic, the gist, or the larger conceptual framework of a textbook chapter, an article, a paragraph, a sentence or a passage is a sophisticated reading task. Being able to draw conclusions, evaluate, and critically interpret articles or chapters is important for overall comprehension in college reading. Textbook chapters, articles, paragraphs, sentences, or passages all have topics and main ideas. The topic is the broad, general theme or message. It is what some call the subject. The main idea is the "key concept" being expressed.Details, major and minor, support the main idea by telling how, what, when, where, why, how much, or how many. Locating the topic, main idea, and supporting details helps you understand the point(s) the writer is attempting to express. Identifying the relationship between these will increase your comprehension.

Applying Strategy

The successful communication of any author's topic is only as good as the organization the author uses to build and define his/her subject matter.

Grasping the Main Idea:

A paragraph is a group of sentences related to a particular topic, or central theme. Every paragraph has a key concept or main idea. The main idea is the most important piece of information the author wants you to know about the concept of that paragraph.
When authors write they have an idea in mind that they are trying to get across. This is especially true as authors compose paragraphs. An author organizes each paragraph's main idea and supporting details in support of the topic or central theme, and each paragraph supports the paragraph preceding it.
A writer will state his/her main idea explicitly somewhere in the paragraph. That main idea may be stated at the beginning of the paragraph, in the middle, or at the end. The sentence in which the main idea is stated is thetopic sentence of that paragraph.
The topic sentence announces the general theme ( or portion of the theme) to be dealt with in the paragraph. Although the topic sentence may appear anywhere in the paragraph, it is usually first - and for a very good reason. This sentence provides the focus for the writer while writing and for the reader while reading. When you find the topic sentence, be sure to underline it so that it will stand out not only now, but also later when you review.

Identifying the Topic:

The first thing you must be able to do to get at the main idea of a paragraph is to identify the topic - the subject of the paragraph. Think of the paragraph as a wheel with the topic being the hub - the central core around which the whole wheel (or paragraph) spins. Your strategy for topic identification is simply to ask yourself the question, "What is this about?" Keep asking yourself that question as you read a paragraph, until the answer to your question becomes clear. Sometimes you can spot the topic by looking for a word or two that repeat. Usually you can state the topic in a few words.
Let us try this topic-finding strategy. Reread the first paragraph on this page - the first paragraph under the heading Grasping the Main Idea. Ask yourself the question, "What is this paragraph about?" To answer, say to yourself in your mind, "The author keeps talking about paragraphs and the way they are designed. This must be the topic - paragraph organization." Reread the second paragraph of the same section. Ask yourself "What is this paragraph about?" Did you say to yourself, "This paragraph is about different ways to organize a paragraph"? That is the topic. Next, reread the third paragraph and see if you can find the topic of the paragraph. How? Write the topic in the margin next to this paragraph. Remember, getting the main idea of a paragraph is crucial to reading.
The bulk of an expository paragraph is made up of supporting sentences (major and minor details), which help to explain or prove the main idea. These sentences present facts, reasons, examples, definitions, comparison, contrasts, and other pertinent details. They are most important because they sell the main idea.
The last sentence of a paragraph is likely to be a concluding sentence. It is used to sum up a discussion, to emphasize a point, or to restate all or part of the topic sentence so as to bring the paragraph to a close. The last sentence may also be a transitional sentence leading to the next paragraph.
Of course, the paragraphs you'll be reading will be part of some longer piece of writing - a textbook chapter, a section of a chapter, or a newspaper or magazine article. Besides expository paragraphs, in which new information is presented and discussed, these longer writings contain three types of paragraphs: introductory, transitional, and summarizing.
Introductory paragraphs tell you, in advance, such things as (1) the main ideas of the chapter or section; (2) the extent or limits of the coverage; (3) how the topic is developed; and (4) the writer's attitude toward the topic.Transitional paragraphs are usually short; their sole function is to tie together what you have read so far and what is to come - to set the stage for succeeding ideas of the chapter or section. Summarizing paragraphs are used to restate briefly the main ideas of the chapter or section. The writer may also draw some conclusion from these ideas, or speculate on some conclusion based on the evidence he/she has presented.
All three types should alert you: the introductory paragraph of things to come; the transitional paragraph of a new topic; and the summarizing paragraph of main ideas that you should have gotten.
after what I've learn in class and through my research in internet, then now, I think I know what is topic sentence, supporting detail and main idea. What can I conclude in my own word is, topic sentence it's topic, what are going to write while supporting detail is support or in the other hand is something that back up the topic to be more better, and main idea is the major or the real idea.

7 inductory paragraph

Introductory paragraph,

  • Get the reader's attention
  • Set tone for the rest of the essay
  • make a contract with the reader-what will be covered in this piece?
1.PERSONAL EXAMPLE:
On Saturday, December 20, 2009, we met a pair of  "pengkid" at shopping complex, Kuala Lumpur. One of them wore a tight T-shirt and jeans like a man and the other one wore a blouse. Sam, 20 year old girl who came from Kedah, became a "pengkid" because she was rapped by her own boyfriend who was older than her. From that point, she did not get any attention from her family. Furthermore, she had been influenced by her friends who had been through the same experience. She came to Kuala Lumpur with a male character and her dressing as well as a guy looks alike. She wanted to be a male because she would understand female more than a male understand them and she also did want all girls out there to be cheated by guys. Sam life was full of bad experiences and she seemed to have no goals in her life. Nevertheless, few reason such as that can make a woman become a "pengkid", that is family problem, environment, and the past experience.

2. RHETORICAL QUESTION
Have you ever heard about gender conversion? HAve you met someone who performed the gender conversion? How they perform the gender conversion. Now in time, the gender conversion is famous among men and it has become widespread. They are many Asian's men perform the gender conversion in Thailand. This has lead to many negatives effects to them. Bad opinion from community, bring discrediton themselves and their family, and easy infection of bacteria are mostly the major for those who performed the gender conversion.

3. FACTS AND STATISTIC
According to the book, "Men in dresses' by Vernon Coleman, "...precise figures are difficult to obtain but my research shows that in an average week 100,000 in every 1,000,000 men dress-for some of the time- in something soft, silky or frilly. Often they just wear a camisole and panties underneath their male clothes. A growing number of men have discovered that putting on stockings and a frock is the quickest way to escape from the stressful responsibilities of being a man..". The statistic had showed the number of men who want become women's has increasing among us in newspaper, radio, television, and internet. There are many causes why men being women such as partners, biological, and media influences.

4.CONTRAST IN THESIS STATEMENT
Previously, gay marriage was not allowed in New York. It got a lot of resistance from every side. It consisted of few factors such as gay marriage will change the foundation of society as well as encouraged more gay couple to get marriage. In addition, it also against the religion and no religion in this world allowed homosexuality. Gay marriage occurs when people get relationship problem and starts to hate different gender. They feel that the same gender is more in their shoes. There are many negative impacts why gay marriage is allowed now in New York as gay's advocate get the highest vote from the citizen, majority of them are homosexual and less legal relationship, as well as the government get strong protest from gay's communities.

5.CURRENT EVENT
The news about gay marriage between a Malaysian, Ariff Alfian Rosli and his lover, an Irish man was reported on December 20th last year. It was a big shock to every Malaysian's eyes to ears. It was embarrassing enough to know that he got married with his own sex and it was unacceptable when he was spotted wearing Malaysian traditional apparel during the ceremony. In facts, Ariff denies the accusation that claimed he had converted out of Islam. he stressed that he were remain a muslim until the day he dieeven though he had stayed from Islam by marrying his own sex. Naturally all religion prevents their followers from getting involve in homosexual relationship. Based on Ariff's story, there are many negative impacts that gay marriage offers to the society ,religion and country.

6. QUOTATION
"As long as society is anti-gay, then it will seem like being gay is anti social''. This thought was written by Joseph Francis.People can see someone personality regarding to the individual behaviour. Furthermore, it will give a bad perception to them. When the society sees the odd thing like man with a man they will say that it was annoying , People will isolate them and think the negative perception about them. But they do not care about the society opinion about them. Based on the statement above, there are many negative impacts of being a gay rather than positive.

7.DEFINITION
Shemale can be defined as men who have the characteristic like a woman. These type of men love about fashion, cosmetic, hairstyle, and many more. Moreover, they also get a good achievement in any field rather than women. They are very talented and creative to create a new things in the world of lifestyle. In addition, some of them will try to be like a woman using surgery and medicine which is expensive. As a result this community give a bad reputation to our environment. Thus, some impacts have been recognized based on this situation such as disease problem, legal aspects and social problems.
